After last weeks gut wrenching capitulation to Carlton, the Saints’ finals chances looked slim. Sydney had won their previous 5 matches and were looking to storm into the top 4 and snag a double chance final on the back of some ominous form. Meanwhile, the city of Sydney had gone into lockdown following an increasing cluster of Covid cases, while Melbourne did the same the Thursday night before this game. The Saints were great. Their finals hopes are still alive, but the constant fluctuations of form continue to perplex.
